Everyone is surrounded by numbers or to be specific MATHS!! Pragmatically everybody has to apply mathematics concepts in one way or other. Even a small child starts his cognition by starting counting. It is so important in human world that without it one cannot think of being able to live. But wait a minute, if it is indispensable and so natural, is it really natural? Confused?? Mathematics is not at all natural in the sense that it is purely man made and cognitive or to be more specific thought process provoked ; not at all science!! I mean what is the proof that 1+1 always equals to 2 and why not 3 or any other number. Mathematics is the way we define it. It must have started with addition and then its inverse subtraction, multiplication and then division; in the same terms we can talk of more sophisticated stuffs like differentiation and integration. This was put into my notice while discussion in cognitive science class, about a girl who came in India talent show; she can actually read anything with her eyes closed. This can be possible only when either she can sense the light even when her eye lids are closed or there is some other sensory organ which is helping her. Was that a miracle or a supernatu ral power? Everyone has his own unique world, each individual has a distinct perception, not only the way each one looks at the things but also the colors in which we see. The most fascinating thing I realized was that each individual has his own paint brush and color palette using which he paints the world around him. The only misfortune is that he cannot color on his own will. The other way to put things is that there are no colors at all; there are only wavelengths that we sense and process to form colors. Having analyzed this fact, I was keener to find out the reason behind this cause. We say that almost everything is coded into our genome, so there should be something peculiar which should be tapped in order to find the correct reason behind such a cause. Different organisms perceives & process things differently; bats use ultrasound to navigate through their way, frog uses different contours, and so we human also have developed a visual system. The output of the signals sent by retina is transformed and processed by a Human Brain which is the most complex system ever studied. Since, the time antediluvian, brain has been the centre of interest. And now when you know (if not then read previous posts) what happened to we Open System People, the final results was apparent. Out of a batch of 200 students 120 flunked in “Compre exam”. All the other streams- (JAVA and Dot-Net people who had around 90% result) were celebrating their “black tag” (Permanent Employee of Infosys tag), when OS students were lamenting on their fortune. Written on my 23 rd birthday, the song was literally sung aloud during lunch break by our group of friends. The next day it got The reputation of National Anthem of Open Systems Batch and is still famous in Infosys...!!!! Soocha nahi tha takdeer yahan layegi…….!!!! When your luck makes you land on to the most difficult Streams of all the time-“Open Systems” and you are bestowed with teachers like so called “Bhootni ka” then only one situation is inevitable - to flunk in “Perception” and “Hands-on” Exam at INFOSYS. It was the worst time of all when you want to study but cannot and if you flunk you will lose your job. All we could do is to take our problems to our class teacher “Parimala” so that she can ask “kushlapa”-our senior HR at Infosys. She was an attitude mania lady and a virago, she never used to support us and when everyone went to complain, she came into the class and said-“All of you people are such fools, not to answer so simple questions”.
